1-year-old boy starved for refusing to say ‘Amen’

BALTIMORE – Four members of a religious cult accused in the starvation death of a 1-year-old boy are expected to appear in a Baltimore courtroom Tuesday afternoon.

The four are scheduled for trial, but the trial is almost certain to be postponed because two of the defendants, Queen Antoinette and Trevia Williams, have yet to hire lawyers.

Members of the group, 1 Mind Ministries (also reported as One Mind Ministries) are accused of withholding water from the boy because he refused to say “Amen” after meals. The cult members considered this to be a sign that the child was a ‘demon.’

In March this year the boy’s 22-year-old mother accepted an unusual plea bargain, in which she agrees to cooperate in the prosecution of the cult’s other members — under the condition that charges against her be dropped if the child rises from the dead.
