Prosecutors seek out-of-county jury in father Dale Neumann’s prayer-death trial
A Marathon County prosecutor is seeking an out-of-county jury to try Dale Neumann because of heavy media coverage during the faith-healing trial of his wife, Leilani Neumann.
[...]During a hearing in Dale Neumann’s case this morning, Assistant District Attorney LaMont Jacobson presented a 21-page printout from a Web site, www.helptheneumanns.com, which he said was a violation of a court-issued gag order in both cases. The site included a statement attributed to Leilani Neumann, in which she criticized her prosecution and maintained that she and Dale are innocent.
In addition, the media coverage of the case would make it difficult to select a neutral jury within Marathon County, Jacobson said.
[...]The state has 10 days to make an appeal requesting an out-of-country jury in Dale Neumann’s case.
His trial on a second-degree reckless homicide charge has been scheduled to start July 23.
