Bond hearing canceled

A hearing scheduled for this morning on whether to reduce the bonds for killing their 9-year-old son, was canceled.
Carl E. Cornwell, an Olathe attorney representing Neil Edgar, said Johnson County Prosecutor Paul Morrison was considering filing criminal charges in Johnson County because the death might have taken place at a home the Edgars’ have been renting in Overland Park.
Charges that were filed last week in Wyandotte County would be dropped, if charges were filed in Johnson County.
“Because of that, it would be superfluous to proceed” with a bond-reduction hearing, Cornwell said. “It would be a waste of time, a waste of money and a waste of effort.”
A third person charged in case, Chasity L. Boyd, was not named in the motion for a bond reduction. The defendants are being held in Wyandotte County jail on $2 million bond each.
The Edgars, pastors at God’s Creation Outreach Ministry, and Boyd are charged with first-degree murder in Brian’s slaying. The Edgars also are charged with abusing three other children of theirs. They adopted all four children.
