Kenyan Court Frees Ex-Sect Leader
Former Mungiki sect leader Ndura Waruinge is now a free man after a Nairobi court Wednesday released him on a 1m shillings bond and a surety pending the hearing and determination of his case.
Justice George Dulu, however, warned Waruinge against going back to Kibera where he allegedly caused chaos, which left three people dead, and others injured.
Waruinge has been in custody for the last six months charged with incitement to violence.
The magistrate’s court had on three occasions before senior principal magistrates Rosemelle Mutoka and Lilian Mutende declined to release him on bond.
Lawyer Jimmy Simiyu represented him in the bond application at the High Court while a battery of lawyers led by Gitobu Imanyara had represented him at the Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution has two more witnesses to call.
