International sect recruits under a different name
BRUSSELS – Posters and banners promoting the Centre Argos can be seen around Brussels, most of which harbour the catch phrase: “Connais-toi toi-même”or, in English: “Know yourself”.
According to the posters, the organisation teaches philosophy andinvites anyone interested to come to an “information gathering” beingheld on January 30.
No cause for concern at first sight. But, as the anti-sect organisation “ResistanceS” said after detecting the posters, Argos suspiciouslyresembles the international sect know as “Nouvelle Acropole“.
Also spotted is that one of the addresses on the “Nouvelle Acropole” website is the same as that of Argos in Anderlecht. In 2005 “Nouvelle Acropole” had used the Anderlecht address in a recruiting campaign as anti-sect protesters demonstrated in front of the Paris headquarters.
Critics of the sect say that they are acting under a different name tolure new recruits, who know, and have a negative opinion of “Nouvelle Acropole”.
A parliamentary investigation
[Dutch/French - RNB] dating from 1997 stated that the sect had an “internal paramilitary structure” and was affiliated with far-rightgroups.
