Probe demanded into activities of ‘Dera Sacha Sauda’ • Monday December 30, 2002

PTI, Dec. 27, 2002

Accusing Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala of ignoring the demands for a probe into the activities of ‘Dera Sacha Sauda’ which is suspected to have links with Pakistan’s ISI, his younger brother and former MLA Pratap Singh todday appealed to Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani to order a probe into the Dera’s activities.

“The Dera, with Branches all over the country, has been squandering money on its activities while refusing to accept donations from the people,” he told a press conference here.

Suspecting that the activities of the Dera Sacha Sauda, situated in the home district of Chautala, were being funded by foreign organisations like the ISI for carrying out anti-India campaign, Singh appealed to Advani to ask the Intelligence Bureau to keep a watch on its activities.

The Centre should order a probe into the activities of Dera Sacha Sauda in order to expose the nexus between such “religious Deras” and anti-India agencies, he said.

The activities of the Dera had come under clouds after the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhattarpati a few month ago, he said and demanded a CBI probe into the murder.

“The Chautala government is dragging its feet on the issue,” he alleged.

Singh said he would soon meet the Deputy Prime Minister to press his demands.
