Jurors in trial of LaShuan Harris scheduled to resume deliberations
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Jurors in the murder trial of LaShuan Harris are scheduled to resume their deliberations this morning.
The 24-year-old Harris had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to three counts of murder in the deaths of her three young children.
Harris is accused killing the children — a six-year-old, a two-year-old and a 16-month-old — in October of last year by throwing them into San Francisco Bay.
One of the bodies was recovered, but the others were never found.
During the trial, her lawyer told jurors that because Harris is schizophrenic and borderline mentally retarded, she was convinced she was sending her children to heaven.
But prosecutors told the jury that Harris should still be found guilty of murder.
