Nigeria: Over 500 Cultists Rehabilitated
Ogun – Over 500 cultists in Ogun State who renounced their membership of various confraternities have been rehabilitated and gainfully employed, courtesy of Ogun State government.
Dropping the hints in Abeokuta, in a chat with newsmen, Commissioner of Youth, Sports and Social Development, Honourable Bukola Olopade, said government was determined to rid the state of cultism.
Olopade said campaign against cultism in all institutions across the atate has yielded positive results, as cult activities on campuses have dropped drastically.
He commended management and students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic(MAPOLY), for doing everything possible at changing the negative impressions of the institution as haven for cult activities.
Olopade said MAPOLY in the past witnessed violent clashes between rival cult groups, but noted that the menace has been checked.
Olopade said between two and three cultists died during clashes with rival cult group during the Gbenga Daniel’s leadership, compared to several deaths before his administration.
He said various schemes were designed for youths by the state government, to take them off the streets and makes them self-reliant.
He said his ministry would continue to educate youths on the dangers of cultism, and advised those yet to renounce membership of any cult group to do so and get themselves engaged in meaningful ventures that could make possible impacts on their future.
