Ann Died From 3rd Degree Burns – Pathologist
Two medical practitioners, including a certified pathologist, testified yesterday in an on-going attempted murder and murder trial involving Lagos Clergyman, Mr Emeka Ezeugo, alias Dr Reverend King, asserting that late Miss Ann Uzoh King, one of King’s victims, died from severe loss of body fluid caused by second and third degree burns, with 75 per cent of her surface skin roasted to the muscle level by petrol fire. Hearing continues today.
Late Ann King, who died on August 2, eleven days after she was allegedly taken to a private Hospital in Lagos by the accused person, was alleged to have been assaulted by King, after being accused of fornication.
Other burn victims who survived King’s attack are Olisa Chiejina, Onuorah Chizoba, Uche Chukwu Iwoba, Vivian Ezeocha, Bunmi Olisa, and Nwere Jessica.
When trial continued yesterday (4th day) before an Ikeja High Court, presided over by Justice Olubunmi Oyewole, the pathologist, Dr Sunday Soyemi (6th prosecution witness), who carried out an autopsy on Ann’s corpse, told the court that although there was nothing to suggest strangulation, there was shocking kidney appearance due to severe loss of body fluid and dehydration; incidental findings of fibroid in her system; and hemorrhage of the lungs.
Court was also told by the eighth prosecution witness, Doctor Chukwuemeka Okafor of Faith City Hospital, Ajao Estate, Lagos, how Ann, who graduated from Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu, in 1999, was admitted into his hospital by the accused, with burn injuries on her hair, face, upper eye-lids, most parts of her abdomen, thighs and her back; with a stench of petrol and lot of grease and oil all over her body.
King, General Overseer (G.O.) of the Isolo-based Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), currently remanded in Ikoyi Prisons, had earlier been accused of forming an army of Church bullies, framing up an allegation of theft involving a sum of N5.5million against the Police, and spear-headed a burn attack on six of his Church members over fornication.
He was alleged to have attempted to murder seven people on July 22, at No 6B, Canal View, Ajao Estate, Lagos. by pouring petrol on them and setting them on fire; an offence punishable under Section 332 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.
During the proceedings, which had the sixth, seventh and eighth prosecution witnesses being led in evidence by prosecution team and under-going cross-examination by accused’s counsel, Chief Mike Okoye, the court was also told that anyone with above 50% surface burns was unlikely to survive such incident, making Ann’s death a mere postponed occurrence. Ann’s younger brother, Ifeanyi, also testified on how he visited the church (CPA) to see his sister and was thrown out by two men in black suits; though he claimed he got a voice recording of his sister on her death bed, which allegedly indicted the accused as responsible for her condition.
