LUSAKS, December 18 — Maria Sung, former wife to Catholic archbishop Emmanuel Milingo says as long as she lives the controversial cleric will remain her husband.
And the Immigration Department that has been intending to deport Sung for overstaying in the country has extended her permit to be in the country to Thursday December 19 the day when Archbishop Milingo is scheduled to leave.
“He is my husband and nothing will change that fact. My heart to love Milingo will not change no matter what happens even if he has decided to change his mind he is still my husband and nothing can change that fact,” said the Korean woman in an exclusive interview on Sunday.
Archbishop Milingo has renounced his marriage to Sung saying he was hoodwinked by the Moonies and had nothing more to do with her.
Sung had earlier on refused to offer an interview to The Monitor saying she did not want to talk to the press. It took about 45 minutes for the author to persuade the Korean woman to have an interview.
Speaking with confidence, Sung vowed that whatever Milingo had said, her love and faith in him would not be swayed.
She said she believed that Milingo had changed his mind regarding their marriage because of pressure from his church.
She explained that the Vatican was powerful and capable of doing anything to suit them but they would not change facts.
“Even if Milingo dies he is my husband and he is talking out of pressure,” she vowed. Sung said as a woman would she patiently wait for Milingo get back to her no matter how long it would take.
“You know the husband can have an extramarital affair out there but the woman will be always there waiting so I will wait and with me he is got no other affairs,” explained the 43 year old South Korean acupuncturist.
And asked if she would want to meet Milingo Sung said: “If you are separated from your partner definitely wouldn’t you want to meet him?” Sung said it was illogical for Milingo to say he could not go into marriage because he was already married to God.
She also disputed Milingo’s claims that he was shocked when he came to his sense to find that he was with a wife.
“That’s illogical can you believe in that yourself?” she asked emotionally. “Anyway, I pity him because he is being used as a Vatican puppet.”
And on her stay in Zambia, Sung said she was disappointed on the way the matter was handled by the Immigration Department.
“Zambian people are very cruel how can they want to deport me when I had a visa to stay up to April next year,” she said displaying the visa.
The visa issued 22nd October by the Zambian Embassy in Washington DC indicated that Sung was given six months to be in Zambia.
The Immigration Department was last week looking for Sung in order to deport her for overstaying in the country. Sung who is in the country in a bid to meet Milingo is being hosted by the Unification Church which belongs to the Moonies. – Monitor
