Emeka King moved to Kirikiri Prison, faces murder charge Friday
Embattled leader of the Christian Praying Assembly, (CPA), Rev. King Emeka Ezugo has been remanded in Kirikiri Prisons till August 11, on the orders of Chief Magistrate T. A. Elias sitting at Oyingbo, in Lagos.
Elias had earlier granted King, and two others, Merrs Don Chiaza and Kelechi bail for the sum of N2million each, Wednesday, when the trio were docked for attempted murder of six members of his church. They were re-arrested following the death of one of the victims, Ann Azuh, who was also the cook in the pastor’s house.
The development further made it unnecessary for the police to verify the claims of the sureties.
A police source told Sunday Sun that right from the beginning, Rev. King and other accused persons failed to meet the bail condition, hence the magistrate to accordingly signed the warrant of detention. They were later remand at the Kirikiri prisons.
While King remained in police custody, the charge was substituted with murder by the police after the demise of Ann.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Mr. Olayinka Balogun told Sunday Sun on phone that “a fresh charge of murder is being preferred against him (Rev King) so we are substituting the former charge of attempted murder to murder. He is already in Kirikiri prison that one is true,” he confirmed.
King was transferred from the SCID, Yaba to Kirikiri maximum prisons at about 1:00pm, on Friday till the next adjournment date of August 11, when the fresh charge will be read.
