Channel 4, Discovery commission Waco expose
The UK’s Channel 4 and the Discovery Channel US have commissioned IMG Media-owned prodco Darlow Smithson Productions to make a docu-drama based on the 1993 Waco siege in Texas.
Inside Waco takes a close look at the blunders and cover-ups surrounding the 51-day siege between the Branch Davidians and the FBI to discover who was ultimately responsible for the deaths of 80 people.
The two-hour programme hopes to tackle the conspiracy theorists head-on, revealing what really happened and telling the dramatic story of the Waco siege from the inside. Viewers will be presented with dramatic reconstructions, first-hand interviews with survivors plus archive and surveillance footage to unpack events from the initial raid, to the final tragic hours of the stand-off.
Darlow Smithson’s executive producer Julian Ware said the documentary promises to reveal the truth behind the dramatic and controversial event. “We have gained extraordinary access to law enforcement agents as well as survivors of the siege – some of whom are speaking on camera for the very first time,” he said.
International rights to the programme, which is produced by Tom Tanner with assistant producer Alex Kiehl, are held by TWI. The production is scheduled for transmission later this year.
