Malachi York gets face time in Putnam county
An image of Nuwaubian leader Malachi York, appearing to be standing in front of the nation’s Capitol, looms on a billboard on the U.S. 441 bypass in Eatonton.
York, convicted in federal court of 10 counts of child molestation and racketeering, is dressed in a black suit with a matching shirt and clerical collar.
The billboard, paid for by Supreme Grand Lodge Inc., bears only York’s name and the Web site, www.hesinnocent.com.
Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, who led the investigation into York’s compound, said he received several calls after he billboard went up last week.
“Nothing, absolutely nothing associated with the Nuwaubians or York would surprise me,” Sills said. “Here he is standing in front of the Capitol, when he’s in the side of a mountain in Colorado with the Unabomber and Moussaoui.”
York was sentenced to 135 years in federal prison.
