(KUTV) FRAMINGHAM, Mass. A Massachusetts man is under arrest and charged with the beating deaths of his 37-year-old wife and her 11-year-old son.

A spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney’s office said the incident occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday night at 27 Gordon Street.

Authorities say 30-year-old Jeremias Bins beat his wife, Carla Souza, and her son, Caique, with a hammer. “At the time they (the police) arrived, what they found was an unfortunate scene,” said Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley. “It was Carla Souza evidencing severe head injuries, and with her was her 11-year-old son – also evidencing severe head injuries.”

Caique was transported to Metro West Medial Center in Framingham, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Carla was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she died at 1:30 AM on Sunday.

According to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, Souza and Bins have a five-month-old baby together. When police arrived at the scene on Saturday, the infant was missing from the home.

According to the D.A.’s office, Caique was Souza’s son from a previous relationship.

Souza’s brother, Elvio Maia, said that Bins was possessive, treated her like a slave and had even threatened to kill Souza and her son before. “She stayed all the time inside the home.”

Bins was taken into custody Saturday night after he showed up at the Framingham Police Department with the infant, who was unharmed. The five-month-old is now in D.S.S. custody. Souza’s brother hopes to become the provider for his nephew.

Friends say Bins did not want Souza to invite over any friends from the church Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. “There was some disagreement between them about her involvement in the church, and his disapproval of it,” said Coakley.

Bins is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and will be arraigned in Framingham District Court on Monday.
