Mungiki suspect shot dead
A man believed to be a coordinator of the mungiki sect in Murang’a, was shot dead on Friday morning.
According to the Murang’a District Commissioner Mr. Kenneth Lusaka, Stephen Irungu Mwangi alias Kiunjuri was arrested yesterday in Nairobi and given to Murang’a police station.
He added that the suspect old confessed that he and his accomplice Mwangi Kihiu murdered Samuel Gachanja and therefore agreed to accompany the police to Mwangi’s home.
However, as they approached Kianjogu area Stephen attempted to run away forcing the police to shoot him.
The DC assured Murang’a residents that the crackdown is still on until all the sect members are flushed out of the district.
He appealed to anyone with information about the sect or it’s activities to the report to the police.
