Madonna asks Kabbalah rabbis for help to save her marriage

Madonna has enlisted the help of Kabbalah rabbis to save her marriage. The singer has sought advice from the leaders of the religious sect in London amid rumours she is planning to separate from her husband.

They have advised her not to do anything until after the festival of Passover, in April, which they believe signifies the exodus of man from the physical to the spiritual world.

Sources within the London Kabbalah Centre have revealed that the 47-year-old star is deeply distressed by the pressure on her relationship with Guy Ritchie, the British film director who is ten years her junior.

“She has confided in teachers about her fears for the future of her marriage because it is under a huge amount of pressure,” said one source last night.

“They have been discussing with her what she should do as being able to hold onto love and making marriage work is one of the things Kabbalism is supposed to help.

“She has not been herself at all. She used to come to meetings every week on a Saturday and openly talk with other members. But recently she has only been interested in talking to the teachers and a small group known as the inner sanctum. She has been very quiet and seemed down in the dumps.”

The source added that the teachers had advised the singer, who has two children, to wait until the April 12 Passover festival before making any decisions about her future.

In traditional Judaism the festival, also known as Pesach, celebrates the exodus of the Jews from slavery in Egypt to the chosen land. In Kabbalism, a mystical offshoot of Judaism, it is seen as a more spiritual journey from enslavement within oneself.

“It is a very important time in the Kabbalistic calendar and the teachers have told Madonna that if she works really hard on freeing herself from her own constraints and ego she should be able to make her marriage work,” the source added.

Rumours

“It is a key time for Kabbalists as it is a time of change. “The teachers told her that hopefully she will see things more clearly after Pesach.” There have been rumours that the couple’s five-year marriage is in trouble since the start of the year.

The singer is said to have become close to her musical director Stuart Price. There are also rumours of strains because she has been working so hard on her album and forthcoming tour.

An appearance by Madonna and her husband at the Brits on Wednesday only appeared to make things worse, as they seemed awkward with each other and barely exchanged a word.

Madonna, who was previously married to Sean Penn, has talked in the past about how she nearly split from Ritchie when they first wed. In a documentary last year, she said: “I got married for all the wrong reasons. My husband did not turn out to be everything I’d imagined him to be. I just wanted to end everything.”

But last week she laughed off rumours that the marriage was in trouble, saying: “Really, we split up? Well he’s still calling me every five minutes.”

Kabbalah has been part of Judaism for more than 1,000 years. But a recent branch of it, run by the Los-Angeles Berg family, has turned it into a fashionable sect which has been criticised by mainstream Jewish organisations.

Madonna is one of its biggest contributors and bought the venue for the London centre for more than ?2million. She has also introduced her friends Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow to the organisation.

Last night a spokesman for the star refused to comment.
