Death threats over Prophet Mohammad drawings
A Norwegian newspaper that published Danish drawings of the Prophet Mohammad that outraged many Muslims today said it had received death threats over the cartoons.
The Christian newspaper Magazinet said it had received scores of emails in what appeared to be an organised protest, including one to chief editor Vebjoern Selbekk that said: “You are a dead man.”
Other emails contained photographs of burned corpses, the paper said.
Magazinet reprinted the caricatures on Tuesday to show support for Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which originally published them in September.
The drawings sparked outrage among Muslim leaders in Denmark and abroad.
Under Islamic tradition, all depictions of Mohammad are barred due to fears that they could lead to idolatry.
Police in Aarhus, Denmark, today said a 29-year-old man had been arrested in Norway for making threats against Jyllands-Posten, but Norwegian police could not confirm that.
