(PDM staff with CTK) 24 November - Two 17-year-old secondary school students from Plzen brutally attacked their 18- year-old classmate with a knife and filmed it with a video camera in what investigators believe might have been an occult Viking ritual, the daily Pravo reported yesterday.

Pravo notes that the case probably has no precedent in the history of modern day Czech criminology.

The cut-up youth, who also suffered injuries to his spine, was taken to hospital.

Pravo reports that according to police investigators, both young attackers were adherents of a Viking cult and engaged in lively debates about the medieval Norsemen’s bloody practices over the Internet.

The daily notes that the worshipping of gods by Vikings is associated with bloody sacrifices of animals and humans.

“The act has so far been classified as the criminal offence of seriously harming one’s health,” Josef Chyba, head of the Plzen police investigators, told Pravo.

The students attacked their classmate inside the apartment building where he lives. They followed him in the morning as he went to school.

According to Pravo, the attackers first knocked their victim to the floor and then began stabbing him with a knife. Their victim used his hands to defend himself and that is where he received most cuts.

The violence was finally stopped by another inhabitant of the apartment building who heard screams and checked to look at what was going on in the hallway. According to Pravo, the neighbour literally had to drag the attackers off their victim.

Other people had by that time come to the scene and the attackers ran away.

The neighbour who came to the student’s rescue confirmed to the police that the attackers had filmed the entire bloody rampage on video.

Pravo notes that according to the neighbour, one of them would always stab the victim while the other one filmed him doing so. The attackers took turns doing this.

“Were it not for the neighbours, I do not know how it would have ended. Our boy’s arms are cut-up from the elbows to the tips of his fingers. He cannot hold anything in his hands. He is also in considerable shock,” the injured student’s father told Pravo.

The police later discovered that the attackers had in the past already hectored their victim over the Internet. According to Pravo, one could conclude from the content of the threats that two youths intend to harm him.

“He received their last threat on the day before the attack,” said the father.

The principal of the secondary school attended by all three students told Pravo she has thus far received no official information about the case.

“For the time being, the police only told us that an incident had taken place between students and because those involved are juveniles the police cannot provide any further information. The police will notify us when the investigation is finished and some sort of finding is ready,” the principal told Pravo, noting that she herself had already spoken with the students involved.

“They presented me with their own account of what had happened. It is an internal matter so I will not talk about it without their prior consent,” added the principal.

The injured student’s father does not want his son to come into contact with the two attackers anymore.

“I will demand that they be expelled from school. When I suggested this to the principal, she responded that the incident did not occur on the school’s premises and that there is therefore no reason to do that,” the father told Pravo.

A psychologist approached by Pravo said that the application of such an occult creed in practice may be very dangerous.

“These people are often so inspired that they are capable of emulating the prescribed practices without considering the consequences. In the case of such individuals, there is an imbalance between rational and emotional factors. Some psychological defect may be at play, especially if they recorded the violent scene on video,” said psychologist Karel Havlik from Klatovy, west Bohemia.
