Church presents cults seminar
First Congregational Church presents cults seminar
Our youth face many challenges in today’s world. Some, such as peer pressure, sexual activity, drugs and alcohol, are obvious and are being confronted by individuals, organizations and even governments every day. Others, as pervasive and destructive, but less obvious, are not dealt with at all. On Nov. 13, at 4 p.m., at The First Congregational Church of Marshfield, 1981 Ocean St., the Rev. Robert Pardon will present a seminar for youth and concerned adults that will address just such an issue, cults and their subtle luring of our youth. All are welcome to attend.
Cults are in our midst and are growing exponentially. They target young people who are particularly vulnerable as they seek to develop their own individuality and independence. Are your young people aware of the subtle lure of such groups? Are they familiar with the dynamics of manipulation and persuasion that can ultimately involve them with a destructive group or person? Do they know that Christian youth are particularly targeted by such organizations?
Pardon and his wife Judy are the co-directors of MeadowHaven, the only long-term residential facility in the world for former members of these groups to come to heal. The Pardons have been involved with this ministry for 15 years and have worked with hundreds of former members and, have even worked with current members during that time. This seminar will raise awareness of this challenge that is devastating families around the world and will arm youth and the adults in their lives to deal with this phenomenon.
