Convicted arsonist and white supremacist Benjamin Williams bled to death in his Shasta County jail cell after cutting himself repeatedly with a smuggled razor blade, an autopsy confirmed Friday.
Redding police Sgt. Dan Kupsky said the results are consistent with what investigators found.
Williams was found on the floor of his cell Sunday morning with severe cuts to his arms, legs and neck from a disposable razor wedged into a plastic ink pen insert.
Authorities said their investigation indicated his death was apparently a suicide. With the autopsy completed, Kupsky said the case is essentially closed.
Williams, 34, of Palo Cedro, was in jail for torching three synagogues in 1999 and for the attempted murder of a a corrections officer during an unsuccessful escape attempt. He and his younger brother were awaiting trial for allegedly killing a gay couple in Happy Valley in 1999.
