Cult Member Killed Himself By Eating Yew Tree Leaves
A cult member poisoned himself by eating yew tree leaves in a bizarre New Age suicide ritual, an inquest heard yesterday.
Stephen Davidson, 35, a member of the Barry Long Foundation, died alone in Butleigh Woods near his home in Glastonbury, Somerset, in April.
He was found by a passer-by near a pile of yew tree leaves, healing crystals, pebbles and a book called The Ending Of Time.
His tent, which was pitched near by, was painted with occult images, many of a sexual nature.
He had tiny particles of leaf in his throat, resulting in yew leaf toxicity: fatal breathing and heart problems.
The coroner recorded a verdict that Mr Davidson killed himself.
The inquest heard that Mr Davidson was a ‘loner’ who had been living in the woods for more than a week before his body was found.
