Uganda names rebels sought by international court
KAMPALA (Reuters) – Uganda named on Friday five rebel commanders sought by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and said they included Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony, whose cult-like group kidnaps, rapes and kills children.
Ugandan Defence Minister Amama Mbabazi told a news conference that the other four were Kony’s number two Vincent Otti, as well as LRA commanders Okot Odiambo, Raska Lukwiya and Dominic Ongwen.
“Now the whole world will be searching for Kony,” Mbabazi said, confirming that Kampala had received the warrants, which follow sealed indictments, sent out last week from the court in The Hague. The warrants are the first issued by the ICC.
