SISTERS, Ore. — The $5 million house that Jabez will build is only an open field now, with shoots of new grass covering the graded acreage where there are views of snow-capped Cascade peaks rising into the crystalline blue skies of central Oregon. But expected to open early in 2004 on the outskirts of town is a 50,000-square-foot office building that will house one of the great success stories in recent American publishing.
