Matt Hale sentencing scheduled for April 6
CHICAGO (CNS) – Matt Hale, the avowed white supremacist who was convicted of soliciting a federal judge’s murder, will be sentenced at a hearing that is scheduled to begin April 6 in Chicago.
Hale’s sentencing had been postponed as the U.S. Supreme Court considered two cases dealing with the way federal judges impose penalties. Under a ruling the high court issued last month, the judges do not have to conform rigidly to federal sentencing guidelines.
It isn’t known how the decision will affect Hale’s case. A jury last April convicted the 33-year-old East Peorian of soliciting violence and obstructing justice. He encouraged an undercover FBI operative in late 2002 to kill a U.S. District Court judge. Hale has been jailed since January 2003.
